Desire, Napoleon Hill in his book, Think and Grow Rich, said, "The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat." Who or what do you desire to be? Do you want to be the world's best writer? Become the next superstar perfomer? Or own a record label that produces other artists? Most people are just contented to do "something", but that won't be enough to fulfill what you are trying to achieve. You have to own your dream and have enough desire to fuel the passion in making that dream into a reality.
But the path to fulfilling a dream is not without its steps, you have to work for it. You have to do stuff like doing research on what you want to be. If you want to be a great writer, find out what it takes to be a great writer by researching everything there is to know about "how to become a great writer". Don't just want to be a great writer, you have to know how to be a great writer.
Also, there is this thing called practice. Superstars today didn't become what they are with just the blink of an eye. It took years and years of practice, training and education for them to be where they are right now. Great songs were not made in a day, they were honed through years of the experience that the artists have accumulated ever since they picked up their first guitar, microphone or piano. Don't be intimidated, they were once like you, inexperienced dreamers, trying to break into the world of music.
It`s like a stairway where you need to take one step at a time. Most superstars practiced at home or in their parents garage, played in awful gigs, wrote horrible songs, had lousy instruments etc, but what made them great was that they were never afraid to try again when they made a mistake. They didn`t quit. They had their share of disappointments, and so will you. But do not despair, as long as you don't give up and try harder each time you falter then you have nothing to worry about. Never let anything hold you back on what you want to achieve, it is yours to keep and noone can take it away from you.
Finally, take advantage of every opportunity you have, every chance you get to sing at karaoke in front of an audience, every birthday song you write for a loved one, every note that you produce on your guitar or piano, always treasure it. Some people would give up a lot to have what you have right now, the passion, desire, commitment and untapped talent, the makings of a future superstar.
Just don`t give up.
